History

Founded in 1974, Kanata Montessori School is a non-denominational, not for profit school, owned and operated by the parents of the students enrolled at the school.

KMS is continually broadening the services it provides to meet the changing needs of its students and parents alike.

In its early beginnings, KMS offered Casa programming. In the 1990’s KMS moved to the Kanata South business park. In 2008 KMS completed a major expansion and now enjoys a full sized gymnasium that benefits all KMS programs and provides the opportunity for many community activities.

The school now sits on over three acres of land with the surrounding woods and trans Canada trail as a perfect backdrop for a school committed to environmental sustainability.

Currently, KMS offers toddler, casa, elementary and junior high programming. KMS has over 50 staff, including specifically trained Montessori educators, specialists in Art, Music, Physical Education and French and a strong support staff.

Our school is built on a strong foundation of four core values. We believe in quality Montessori education, high academic standards, a partnership between school and home and a strong sense of school community as well as consistently contributing to our larger community.

KMS is registered under the Ontario Day Nurseries Act, licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services, and licensed as an independent elementary school by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

KMS is accredited by the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (CCMA).

Why Free Kindergarten Comes at a Cost While any increase in educational opportunities for children is a good thing, when compared to the Toddler and Casa programs at KMS, the play based kindergarten program does not come close to offering what KMS offers the preschool aged child.
